Surefire Ways to Manage Pitta Dosha in Summer Season

Ayurveda is an ancient medical system that works by balancing the climate and individual qualities. When hot, humid weather arrives, the Ayurvedic strategy is to make one cool and calm as every season comes with its own attributes. Ayurveda believes that a specific dosha rules every season. For example, the summer season is governed by Pitta. Depending on the individual’s constitution, summer can increase the sense of internal harmony or can aggravate one of their innate tendencies. In this article, we will read about how to manage Pitta Dosha in the Summer season.

What is Pitta Dosha?

Pitta is among the three primary doshas in the body. It is governed by biological fire and is responsible for digestion along with metabolic and chemical reactions in the body. According to Ayurveda, Pitta controls metabolism, heat, and transformation in the body and mind. When Pitta gets imbalanced, it can cause a wide range of uncomfortable symptoms, resulting in various health disorders.
What are the Causes of Pitta Dosha?
Ayurveda believes that Pitta is made up of Jala (water) and Agni (fire). When the level of pitta increases, it may cause severe health issues called Pitta Doshas. Some of the common causes of Pitta Dosha are:

  • Staying or Working in hot temperature
  • Tension, stress
  • Poor lifestyle
  • Alcohol, smoking, junk food, and tea
  • Poor sleep

Why Does Pitta Dosha Take Place in the Summer Season?

In summer, pitta aggravation is in full power. It is most affected by the summer season because of the highest level of heat. On a hot sunny day, it can be easy for Pitta dosha to get out of control. When Pitta becomes out of control, you may suffer from high blood pressure, skin rashes, and heartburn. Moreover, you can also notice a temperament change such as feeling angry, frustrated, and irritated.

The oily, hot, and moist light and penetrating and pungent qualities of the season disturb the human body and mind. This is true if your primary constitution is Pitta.

What steps can be taken to prevent Pitta Dosha

By following a few steps, you can easily prevent Pitta Dosha without any hassle. Let’s have a look at these surefire ways to avoid Pitta Dosha in the summer season.

Consuming Pitta pacifying foods

A Pitta Pacifying diet such as food that is astringent, sweet, and bitter helps pacify Pitta.
Apples, melon, cabbage, papaya, cauliflower, bell pepper, and ripe grapes should be a part of your diet.
Include grains like rice, wheat, oats, quinoa, and pasta in your diet
Legumes such as split peas, black beans, lentils, and white beans should be included in your diet.
Add pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, coconut, and almonds to your diet.
Avoid eating heavy foods that are difficult to digest
Eat vegetables and fruits an hour before a meal or maybe after.
Includes spices such as cumin, fennel, coriander, and turmeric to your foods
Drink enough water and be hydrated.

Herbs to Reduce Pitta Effect in Summer

Ayurveda offers a wide range of remedies for Pitta dosha imbalance. These herbs are very effective and safe for consumers. The following are the Pitta Pacifying herbs:

  • Amla helps in cleansing Pitta from the digestive system
  • Neem is one of the best herbs to manage Pitta dosha
  • Triphala
  • Kalyanaka Gritham,a medicated ghee
  • Jeera or cumin seeds
  • Cardamom or Elaichi

Yoga and Exercises to Calm Pitta Doshas

Yoga and exercise help increase body heat. It is vital to do Pitta pacifying Yoga that cools your body instead of heating it up. It is suggested to do Yoga early in the morning or evening. Some of the most effective Yogasana that can help reduce Pitta are:

  • Balasana or Child Pose
  • Marjaryasana
  • Bhujangasana or cobra
  • Jathara Parivartanasana or Spinal Twist

Besides Yoga, breathing exercises such as Pranayam are also very effective to pacify Pitta. In addition, Sheetali Pranayama, which involves inhaling from the mouth and exhaling from the nose, is also effective and helpful.

Understanding the Concept of Panchakarma to Lead Healthy Lifestyle

According to Ayurveda, Ama (toxins) is the internal cause of all diseases as it aggravates Kapha, Pitta, and Vata doshas. Therefore, to prevent diseases, it is vital to help the body eliminate ama. In order to restrict ama production in the body, Ayurveda suggests putting a person on a proper cleansing program such as Panchkarma. Although many people think that Panchkarma is the entire procedure, it is a part of therapy belonging to a cleansing procedure class called Shodhana. Certainly, Panchkarma plays a vital role in leading a healthy life. Wondering how? Let’s get an answer to this question in detail.

What is Panchkarma?

Panchkarma is derived from Sanskrit, which means five treatments or five actions. It is an effective means to flush ama out of the body by rejuvenating and cleaning the mind and body. Panchkarma uses five methods that assure to detoxify the body and making it healthy.

Vamana

This treatment is ideal for patients with Kapha dominant body. The patient is given internal and external oleation and fomentation treatments that include Ayurvedic medicines and therapies. Vamana is best for those suffering from anxiety, hyperacidity, asthma, and weight gain.

Virechan

Virechan is Prescribed especially for dominant pitta conditions like jaundice, herpes zoster, celiac infection, etc. In this therapy, patients are given a natural purgative in order to purify toxins from the body.

Basti

Basti has many benefits when it comes to chronic and convoluted diseases. It uses herbal oil enema to heal the body. This therapy uses ghee, milk, or homegrown decoctions into the rectum. This therapy is ideal for Vata dominant conditions such as piles, arthritis, constipation, and more.

Nasya

This therapy is really powerful in purging and clearing the head area. It includes gentle massage of the shoulder and head area. Afterward, nasal drops are dropped in both nostrils. These drops effectively clean the head area and eliminate headaches, sleep disorders, sinusitis, neurological disorders, and respiratory problems.

Raktamokshan

This is an effective treatment useful for blood cleansing and helps treat conditions caused due to blood impurities. It can be done either for the whole body or any specific affected area. Raktamokshan is useful, especially for different skin issues such as dermatitis, psoriasis, etc.

What is the Ideal way of Carrying out Panchkarma?

Depending on the facility you choose, the Panchkarma program can vary slightly. It is done under the supervision of an Ayurvedic practitioner. The program is tailored to the constitution of the patient’s body and mind to get most of it. Basically, there are three major components of the Panchkarma program. These are:

  • Poorva Karma (Preparation phase)
  • Pradhana Karma (Principal Phase)
  • Paschat Karma (Post-therapy phase)

Poorva Karma (Preparation Phase)

In this phase, your body is prepared to eliminate imbalances of doshas. It includes steps that help the body release stored toxicity. During this phase, a patient has to go through the following steps:

Pachan Karma- Partaking and fasting of herbs so patients can easily digest liquified butter (ghee) to dissolve fat-soluble toxins.
Snehan Karma- In this step, a patient is given an increased dose of medicated ghee to stimulate toxins liquefaction.
Swedan Karma- This step involves steam bathing and deep Ayurvedic massage to open body channels to facilitate the movement of the digestive tract.

Pradhana Karma (Principal Phase)

During the Pradhana karma phase, the main focus is to remove toxins (ama) from the body. This is where the five Panchkarma therapies would be used.

Vamana is the first step of Panchakarma therapy, in which you will be given herbal ghee to drink. Kapha foods such as milk, sweets, black gram, and yogurt are given on the first day. Then large quantities of natural herb purgatives like decoctions, licorice, and saline are given to cleanse the stomach, liver, chest, and intestinal tract. Then around 4-8 cups of liquid are given. Most patients start throwing it up, and if someone doesn’t, they will be asked to stimulate their throat back to activate the gag reflex. The vomit helps bring up digested food, drinks, bile, mucus foam, gerbs, and then vitiate bio energies. This therapy makes the patient feel relieved and light.

Virechana is done after Vamana. It cleans sticky Kapha and acidic Pitta toxins. The body draws these endotoxins from the gallbladder, spleen, and liver, eliminating them through small intestines. After the Kapha-Pitta dominant toxins settle down in the small intestines, they show symptoms such as rashes, diarrhea, acne, allergies, liver problems, etc. Virechana takes 1-3 days, depending on the condition of the patient. It also supports snehana oleation therapies. The patient must have a strong digestive Agni to reap benefits from Virechana drugs. This therapy helps in bringing the best feeling of lightness into the body.

Basti enema has half of the treatment in itself. In this Panchakarma therapy, the urethra, urinary bladder, and colon are flushed, nourished, and rinsed with herbal oils and decoctions. This therapy is carried out on patients who have issues due to their Vata origins. There are basically three times of Basti: Anuvaasana, an oil-based enema given to people with high Vata. Niruha Basti is offered in the morning or afternoon after lunch. Uttara Vasti is for cleaning the urinary bladder and urethra.

Basti is a safe process and creates a sense of well-being. It makes the body feel great relief and light.
Nasya is a therapy in which an Ayurvedic physician uses healing oils or Sneha with herbal extracts to the shoulders, throat, and head channels. The herbs go through the Shringaataka marma spot at the head base, moving through the micro-capillaries and veins in the head and face. It brings the dosha energies back to the Sattvic harmony. The different types of Nasya are : Virechana Nasya, Brinhana, Shamana Nasya, Pratimarshya Nasya, Marshya Nasya, and Pradhamana. It is only given to those who are strong enough to handle the therapy. In this therapy, the physician put 6-10 drops in the nostrils. The patient has to stay in bed until he/she feels fresh and alert. When done correctly, it helps one feel energetic and provides sound sleep.

Raktamosksha is the final panchakarma therapy that helps in purifying blood. If you have heavy metal content in the blood, have severe toxicity and inflammation, a few raktamokshana therapies can help. These are Pracchana which needs micro-needling, Siravyadha which is done by using a syringe. Jalauka uses leeches. This therapy is ideal for underweight, anemic, have asthma, menstruation problems, impotence, etc.

How can Panchkarma Help in Fighting Diseases?

Panchkarma plays a vital role in flushing out toxins from the body that are responsible for various ailments. Today, as a toxic environment and stress affect mental and physical states causing various diseases and damaging wellness and health, Ayurveda is a rescuer. It works on the following objective:

Swasthasya Swasthya Rakshanam AthurasyaVikaraPrashmanam”

Swasthya Rakshanam means that healthy people should maintain their wellbeing, and AthurasyaVikaraPrashmanam means unhealthy people should be freed from diseases. Here Panchkarma plays a vital role. It provides instant relief by expelling out harmful toxins from the body and detoxifying it. Moreover, this therapy also maintains the proper balance of doshas, immune system, digestive fire, health conditions, life span, and other factors. It helps the body in various ways such as:

  • Restoring Metabolic fire (Agni)
  • Boosting the immunity levels of the body
  • Balancing three doshas – Kapha, Pitta, and Vata.
  • Implementing a healthy lifestyle through a healthy diet
  • Improves tolerance, relaxation and reduces stress.

How can Panchkarma Help in Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle?

Panchkarma is an effective Ayurvedic therapy that supports the constitutional harmony of the body and mind while promoting overall immunity, energy, and cellular rejuvenation. The key to a healthy body is to remove all toxins from the body and re-establish the constitutional balance of equilibrium dhatus (metabolism) and doshas. In order to achieve this, Ayurveda has advocated a few treatments and regimental modalities like Vega Adharana, Rasayana Vajikarana, Dincharya, and Panchkarma. The five therapies in Panchakarma cleanse the body toxins after lubricating it. This treatment is effective, unique, and includes promotive, curative, and preventing action for various diseases.

Panchkarma, as a habit.

If you are looking for a therapy or treatment that helps in blood purification, de-stressing, and supports metabolism, Panchakarma is the right therapy for you. It is an effective treatment that works from weight loss to getting healthier hair, glowing skin, a calmer mind, and treating various diseases. When you make it a part of your life, you will see how your health improves. The treatment helps clean the secretion and excretion channels and optimize the movements of hormones, blood, lymph, and electric conductivity of motor and sensory neurons. It removes dead cells from the skin and gives you a flawless look. Anyone can go for Panchakarma treatment. If you have some disease, it can provide curative benefits. If you are healthy, it will have detox and rejuvenating effects on the body.

Conclusion

I, Guru Manish believe that Ayurvedic Panchakarma therapy helps you to be healthy from the inside out. Therefore, at Shuddhi Ayurveda, I provide the most effective Panchakarma Therapy that helps in balancing your doshas while removing toxins from the body. With years of experience in providing Panchakarma therapy, my main focus is to help people stay healthy.

How Exercises Help in Balancing your Dosha?

It’s no secret that exercise has several advantages. But did you know that the good Agni stimulant is exercise? Yes, exercise promotes digestion, which is the foundation of good health! In addition, exercise improves immune function and promotes resistance to illness.

Moreover, it also cleans the channels, stimulates blood circulation, and aids in toxins removal. Regular exercise can lift your health, mentally and physically, while reducing anxiety, worry, and tension symptoms.

When you exercise outside, your prana, or life power, increases. Spending time in nature, walking, hiking, cycling, and doing yoga are just a few of the activities that may help you get the advantages of sunshine and fresh air. However, in the summer, you should avoid exercising in the middle of the day, and in the winter, make sure to dress warmly. As you are aware, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to Ayurveda. Continue reading for some dosha-specific advice.

In Ayurveda, there are three types of doshas- Vata, Kapha, and Pitta. It is important to understand which exercises are effective for the individual dosha balance.

Best Vata Exercises

Vatas benefit from gentle, low-impact exercise such as yoga, particularly hot, yin, and restorative yoga. Exercise relieves their anxiety, but it is easy for them to become hooked to excessive exercise, which exhausts them and briefly keeps them from overthinking. Many Vatas prefer running, but it can cause tension on their joints, which can be harmful. Swimming, walking, and cycling are all low-impact activities. Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and pranayama are breath-focused therapies that assist Vatas in regulating their prana.

The best movements to balance Vata are:

  • Mild, regular exercise is essential!
  • Vata will benefit from activities that are watery, flowing, and on the ground, such as swimming, gentle/moderate hiking, dancing, stand-up paddleboarding, or barre.
  • Restorative yoga will also help to support Vata’s delicacy. In moderation, a slow, grounded vinyasa or hatha yoga practice will be relaxing for Vata.
  • Gardening will also be relaxing and grounding to Vata because it incorporates the earth element. Bouldering will have the same impact.
  • While fast-paced sports may appeal to Vatas, they are not the most balanced for their constitution.
  • Avoid working out in the wind.
  • Best Pitta Exercises

When it comes to exercise, Pittas enjoy challenges. They enjoy team sports, a healthy amount of competition and are careful not to overexert themselves. Swimming and Yoga styles based on alignments, such as Hatha and Iyengar, are also popular and effective.

Hiking, interval training, cycling, and other goal-oriented activities appeal to Pitta’s drive. Physical activity is an important channel for Pitta’s drive, clear focus, and achievement – as well as a way to release extreme pressure while also accepting challenges.

Moderate, dense, and cooling will be beneficial for Pitta such as moderate swimming, yoga, weight lifting, Pilates, winter sports, as well as Yin yoga.

Or those that require intense concentration and strategy, such as rock climbing and mountain biking.

Limit overly competitive sports, as Pitta tends to overdo it. While competitive sports may appeal to pittas, they are not the most balanced for their constitution. When participating in team sports, know your limits and practice engaging in healthy competition – the ability to cultivate a healthy relationship with competition is a sign of a more balanced Pitta.
Avoid exercising in direct sunlight.

Best Kapha Exercises

Kapha, more than any other dosha, benefits from vigorous, intense exercise on a daily basis. To overcome the sleep heaviness, it is best, to begin with, a morning workout. Kaphas are unstoppable once they get started and can maintain this momentum throughout the day. Cardio, vigorous yoga, and group workouts are all excellent choices for Kapha people. Find a fun way to work out every day.
Exercise is essential for Kapha because it boosts energy, keeps excess weight off the body, and prevents depression.
Kapha will benefit from light, sharp, hot, rough, and mobile movement, such as:

  • Arduous hiking
  • Cycling Aerobics, cardio dance (such as Zumba), or kickboxing are all examples of cardio exercises.
  • A strong vinyasa yoga practice, or even hot yoga, is generally balanced for your Kapha.

Jogging — but keep in mind that while running is especially good for your Kapha, it can be a little aggravating for anyone’s Vata, especially if the path is concrete. So instead, consider running on a soft path or walking a couple of mornings a week.
While sedentary physical activities are appealing to Kaphas, they are not needed to balance for their constitution.
Kaphas should avoid eating for at least 1-2 hours before exercising. Because those with Kapha predominance have a tendency toward Mandagni or slow digestion, we should exercise with a full stomach with caution. However, eating right before working out is not good for anyone’s digestion.
For every dosha balance, it is suggested to do exercise daily for half an hour to one hour. But here’s the exciting part: according to Ayurvedic philosophy, you should only exercise about half your maximum capacity. This is because energetic exercise can drain subtle life essences, and excessive energy is frequently mentioned in ancient Ayurvedic texts as a cause of disease.
As you begin your new physical activity routine, keep in mind that exercise is an opportunity to connect with and care for your body. This is not about exercising control over your body or attempting to “lose weight.” Instead, by renewing your commitment to a form of movement that you enjoy or committing to trying something new, you can practice working with (rather than against) your body.

Wrapping the post

I, Ayurvedic Guru Manish, believe that working out in nature is one of the best ways to exercise rather than in an artificial environment. This has a profoundly positive effect on our overall well-being and assists us in remaining in tune with nature. Remember that you are nature, so this will help you reconnect with yourself.
Keep your earbuds out while exercising in the great outdoors. Please do not check out while working out; check-in instead. Listen to the sounds of the birds, the wind, and the leaves. Allow yourself to take deep breaths and absorb your surroundings. Feel the flow of prana, your vital life energy, through your body and mind.
